Janet Marie Craw passed away on October 10, 2022, at home peacefully surrounded by family in Phoenix, AZ. She was 94. Janet was born at home on September 22, 1928, to her parents George Henry Schwenk and Erma Marie (nee Weber) Schwenk in Dayton, Ohio; she inherited the Weber sense of humor and giggle from her Grandmother Anna. Janet was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Craw, her parents, and brothers George, Victor, and Norman.
The Schwenk family relocated to Los Angeles, California from Dayton, Ohio in 1933 where Janet and her brothers spent the remaining years of their youth growing up. On March 14, 1944, Janet made a decision to trust Jesus as her Lord and Savior, establishing a lifetime commitment from which she would never waiver. In fall 1947 Janet met the love of her life, Vernon in Sunday school class, and they married on June 24, 1948; they were married for 68 years until his passing in November 2016. Janet and Vernon settled in Ojai, California to raise a family. Janet was active in the Church for many years serving in the choir and various women’s ministries.
One of her greatest passions was the study of Genealogy, carefully researching family history, meticulously confirming dates, and locations with public records matching family history all the while making profound discoveries in family lineage. She was a perfectionist making significant contributions to Ancestry ranging over 30 years. Janet was a true genealogist but too modest to accept that title.
Janet was the last of the Schwenk family having outlived brothers George, Victor, and Norman, whom she dearly missed having phone conversations with. They were all very close.
Her love of the Lord remained a strong foundation. It is with confidence and peace that we celebrate her warm reception into the presence of the Living God, and are looking forward to our reunion. Janet is survived by her children Lance Craw and Shirley Warren, daughter-in-law Holly Craw, grandchildren Charissa Quade (Jeremy Quade), Naomi Craig (Rob Craig), great granddaughter Jada Craig; niece Vikki Bradford and nephew George Schwenk.
