Janet Marie Gregory, 88, of Boerne, Texas passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.

Janet Marie Whelan was born December 7,1930 in Boston, Massachusetts to John Edward and  Bertha G. (Hayden) Whelan. She became a nurse in the late 1940’s, running wards and working with polio patients in her early 20’s. Her father suggested she join the Air Force so she could travel. She joined as a lieutenant and was sent to Connally Air Force Base where she met Richard Gregory. They moved to Chicago after they were married and began to raise their family.

Janet worked as a nurse in labor and delivery for over 40 years while raising her family. She selflessly made sure her family had everything they needed and was always there for them. She was diagnosed with MS in 1988 but did not let that stop her from being an active, determined woman who would sacrifice anything for her great-grandchildren, grandchildren and children – in that order.

Janet was a Girl Scout leader, and found many ways to keep her children entertained. She was an active member of St. Peters, and participated in the Senior Ministry, numerous bible studies, mail ministry, taught faith formation, Stephen Ministry and many other volunteer roles. She had been involved in the Kendall County Fair Association and was a member of the Optimist Club, where she spearheaded the effort to put a park at Highland and Water St now known as Kinderpark and raised the money to purchase the equipment.

Janet is survived by her children, Judy Gleason (Jim), Bob Gregory, Sandra Ann Faust (TJ), and Susan Andrade (Ronnie); her grandchildren, Ricky Gleason (Shannan), Robbie Gleason (Caroline), Steven Faust (Amber), Eric Faust (Breanna), Amanda Andrade, Gabriel Andrade (Alyssa), and Christina Gregory; and her great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Kaylee, Hudson, Waelynn, Landen, Sophia, Dustyn, Freya, Sterling, and Ryan.

Janet was preceded in death by the love of her life, Richard Gregory; her daughter, Diane Martin; her granddaughter, Megan Gleason; her parents John and Bertha Whelan; her twin sister, Jane; and her brothers Joe and Jack.

Her family is thankful to the staff at University Hospital for their kindness, and to Janet’s dear friend, Ginger Alsobrooks, who was her companion, driver and confidant for the last few years.
