Janet M. Fischer Houghtelin of Terre Haute, Indiana, died on May 25, 2014 in her home. Janet was born in Evansville, Indiana on March 31, 1937 to Lawrence and Emma Fischer. Janet earned her teaching degree at Indiana State University. She was a substitute teacher for the Vigo Country School Corporation and also taught at Ivy Tech of Terre Haute and Ivy Tech of Bloomingtion. After retiring from teaching she worked for Bloomington Title until she moved back to Terre Haute to be near her family. At the time of her death she was a volunteer and part-time employee at Union Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marilyn Fischer Woodruff, and her long time companion Bill Smith. She is survived by her two children; Scott Houghtelin and his wife Lynn, and Laurie “Ann” Brighton and her husband John; four grandchildren she adored, Alan Houghtelin, Alicia Houghtelin, Shelby Brighton, and William Brighton; and a very special great grandson Jaxson Scott; Also several nieces, nephews, and close friends including her cousin and best friend Margie Ison of Nashville, Indiana.
