Torrington: Janet L. Warland, 83, of 376 Goshen Road, formerly of Robertsville Road, Colebrook, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital following a short illness. She was the wife of the late Edward G. Warland who died in 1998. Born in Winsted, December 28, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William P. and Emma (Hotchkiss) Ryan and had lived in the Winsted area all of her life before moving to Torrington 5 years ago. Prior to her retirement in 1982, she had worked for Pratt and Whitney for 20 years. She was a graduate of The Gilbert School, Class of 1943 as its Valadictorian. She was a member of the Hospital Thrift Shop and enjoyed playing the piano all of her life. In additon to her love of music she was an expert gardener and loved to travel. But most of all she loved the time spent with her two grandchilden, Shannon and Ryan Basso. She was the eternal optimist and an inspiration to all who knew survivors include a brother, Kenneth Ryan of Winsted; granddaughter, Shannon Basso of Torrington; grandson, Ryan Basso and son-in-law, Fred Basso both of Colebrook and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughters, Lynn Warland and Julie Basso and two brothers, Edwin Ryan and William P. Ryan, Jr.
