Janet Kilgore passed away on December5th, 2018, after a courageous 9 month battle with cancer.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Dale Kilgore, of rural Upland, Indiana. Janet was born November 27th, 1940, to Alvin and Dorotha Atkinson in Monroe Township, outside of Upland. She graduated in 1958 from Jefferson Township High School. In June, 1959, Janet married her high school sweetheart, Dale Kilgore. She retired in 1993 after spending 30 years in banking, serving customers in Upland and at Star Financial Bank in Marion. After Dale retired from Dana Corporation, he and Janet spent summers at their rural Grant County home and for the past 25 years spent winters in Sarasota, Florida. They also enjoyed visiting their daughter Terri and her family in Virginia, and son Tim and his family in northern Wisconsin.
For many years, Janet and Dale enjoyed a lake house on Lake Tippecanoe Indiana, and later became quite fond of camping and were members of the Heartland and Dana camping clubs. Dale and Janet enjoyed their camping trips, visiting new places, and sharing fellowship with friends. In their early retirement years, Dale and Janet were accomplished square-dancers. They attend Grace Community Church in Marion. Janet is also survived by two children: Tim (Patty) Kilgore, Wausau, Wisconsin, and Terri (Art) Bell, Chesterfield, Virginia; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Adkins, of Somerset; and her brother, Robert Atkinson, of Upland.
Janet is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Fierstos and her brother, Donald Atkinson. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the many that provided care and support visits to Janet and Dale during this trying period, especially Missy and Tabitha from Heart to Heart Hospice Services.
