Janet “Jan” Payne, age 70 of Centralia, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Jan was born September 30, 1944 in St. Louis, MO, daughter of Lawrence “Larry” Charles Matousek and Anna (Miller) Matousek. She married Jerry Payne on May 9, 1964 at St. Mary’s Church in Centralia and he survives in Centralia.
In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is also survived by a son, Jason Payne and wife Sarah of Oak Park, IL; a brother, Ken Matousek and wife Nancy of Peoria, IL; a sister, Marilyn Reed and husband John of Richwood, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jan was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia. She was a former counselor for Delta Sorority and a member of the original Orphanettes. She was a life guard at the Centralia City pool where she participated in synchronized swimming and coordinated the pool show yearly.
Jan worked at her family business, Herron’s Leading Jewelers, for over 30 years.
Jan enjoyed painting, reading, and loved having fun. Most of all she loved spending time with family and friends.
