Janet Houston Van Noy, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the Benton House in Sugar Hill, GA. She was born on May 20, 1930 to the late James Hugh Houston and Lucille Houston. Jan, “Rabbit” was a highly decorated Nurse. She started out being a Lieutenant in the Air Force. Jan studied to be a RN at St. Joesph’s Infirmary in Atlanta, GA. Rabbit became a RN for the Seaboard Railroad and the Birmingham Railway Transit Company where she went on to be the head RN on the Silver Comet train that went from B’ham to NY. After her Railroad time she was a Secretary for a prominent lawyer in Birmingham, AL. After being in Alabama she left and became the Chief Nurse at Travis AFB in California. Later on she moved to Texas and become the Director of Nurses at Great Southwest General Hospital in Grand Prairie, TX. Jan later became a Air Force Captain in the reserves and was the reserve recruiting officer for medical services for the USAF in Fort Worth, TX. Jan later transferred to be the Head RN at Nan Travis Hospital in Jacksonville, TX. Along with her parents, Jan is preceded in death by her husband, Glen S. Van Noy and siblings, Eloise Houston Duren and Melson Houston. She is survived by her brother, Marion Ansley Houston and her nephew, William Rogers.
