Janeen Kay Godfrey, age 69, of Cassopolis, died last week of apparent natural causes while walking near her home. Her life began January 30, 1953, in Niles, Michigan, the oldest of three children born to John K. and Marilyn J. Gore. She married her college sweetheart, Robert F. Godfrey August 24, 1974, in Cassopolis, Michigan. After forty-two years of marriage, he proceeded her in death March 18, 2017.
Janeen graduated from Michigan State University and taught high school math in Michigan and Indiana, retiring from Lawrence Central High School of Indianapolis in 2012. Since returning to her hometown, she greatly enjoyed serving community organizations including CASA, Cass County Council on Aging, Diamond Lake Association, the Historic Newton House, and Stone Lake Woods. She was a long-time member and past commodore of Diamond Lake Yacht Club where she will be greatly missed.
Janeen will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her two children, Dr. Jenna Godfrey (Jon) Hussey, PhD, Dr. David (Stacie) Godfrey, MD; four grandsons, Jackson and Spencer Godfrey, Ethan and Everett Hussey; one sister, Jill Lynn (Thomas) Vihtelic; one brother, John S. (Patty) Gore; and a host of nieces and nephew.
