On July 1st, 2011 at 7:50PM, Jane Westermann passed peacefully from this world after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. Her daughter, Sally, grandson Zach and AA sponsee and friend Beverly were at her side.
She was born Jane Carolyn LeFevre in Philadelphia, PA on 11/23/1925, the daughter of Kenneth Graham and Sara LeFevre. After being raised in the Frankford area of Philadelphia and graduating from Frankford High, she attended one year of college at Harcum Junior College. Jane married William J.S.Borie, Jr. on 10/26/46 and with that union producing five children. They raised their children primarily in Jenkintown, Pa. and divorced after 24 years of marriage. Jane married a second time to Joseph Westermann and they moved several years later to Maitland, Florida and then to Paradise Valley, Arizona in 1976. Jane and Joe traveled the world but their biggest love was working with the AA community.
Jane devoted her adult life to maintaining her sobriety and helping others in the Alcoholic Anonymous program. She felt it was her mission and calling to help those suffering the disease of alcoholism. Jane sponsored many people who loved and adored her and more then a few have credited Jane with saving their life due to her guidance and counsel. She became known as Last chance Jane and would often be heard saying get out of the pity pot, how are you and God doing? and pull up your socks . In addition to her AA life, Jane was an avid and skilled golfer as well as an accomplised artist.
She was predeceased by her brother Kenneth Graham LeFevre of Rosemont, Pa. She is survived by her five children; Reed William Borie and his wife Sally, William J.S.Borie, lll and his wife Pat, Kenneth Graham Borie and his wife Mary, John Reed Borie, and Sally Borie-Wilson and her husband Lance. Jane also leaves twelve grandchildren; Jessica, Keith and Kevin; William J.S.Borie, lV and Leslie; Matt, Forrest and Tatiana; and Zach, Jake, Tyler and Nathan as well as several great grandchildren.
