Jane was born February 17, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Joseph Frank McMullen and Mary Pauline Beshoar. Jane grew up in Indianapolis, however she spent summers on the family farm in Burnettesville, Indiana with her grandmama and her many aunts and uncles. She graduated from Shortridge High School in May of 1949 and then attended Purdue University, in the home economics department beginning fall of that year. Jane met Dick at Purdue and they were married on June 27, 1952 in Indianapolis. To this marriage four children were born, Charles Richard, Linda Anne, Paul Thomas and Susan Leigh.
Following Dick’s graduation from Purdue, Dick and Jane moved to Mt. Gilead Ohio where all four of their children were born. Due to Jane’s outgoing personality she was asked to become the first Welcome Wagon lady for the area and would call on new residents and present them with gifts from local businesses. At the same time Dick became very active in Lion’s Club and Jane enjoyed attending the functions and conventions with Dick which fueled her hunger for travel.
In 1966 the family moved to Colorado where Jane continued her Welcome Wagon career, raising the family and being involved in various Columbine Knolls activities. Some of her favorite hobbies were bridge club, golf, travel, knitting and neighborhood parties. In 1971 Jane worked for The Denver Dry Goods in the stationary department which led to her employment at a neighborhood Hallmark store and her passion for greeting cards and holiday décor. Because of their love of road trips and the mountains, they bought a condo in Breckenridge, where many of our favorite family memories were made.
Surviving Jane are her children Rick (Cathy) Spielman, Idaho Falls, ID, Linda (Steve) Steinhauer, Walters, Minnesota, Paul (Sue) Spielman, Firestone, Colorado, Susan (Scott) Spielman-White, Carbondale, Colorado; grandchildren Dustin (Crystal) Spielman, Zach Spielman, Trevor (Keeley) Spielman, Cory Steinhauer, Elijah and Delaney Spielman; step grandchildren Steve, Barbara Steinhauer, Christina Palmer; two great grandchildren, Gavin Steinhauer and Adley Spielman and sister Ann O’Rourke, Milwaukee, WI.
Preceding her in death are husband, Charles Richard Spielman Jr., father, Joseph Frank McMullen, mother Pauline McMullen, brother in law, Les O’Rourke, father-in-law Charles Richard Spielman Sr. and mother-in-law Esther Marie Spielman.
