Jane Helen Rawlings Blair, 91, died peacefully Monday, April 20, surrounded by family at Jefferson House in Newington, her home the last six years. The daughter of Howard Clifford Rawlings and Helen Burns Rawlings, Jane was born in New Britain and raised on Tulip Street in the city’s Belvedere section. She attended Stanley School, Nathan Hale Junior High, and graduated from New Britain Senior High. She then graduated from Bryant University. Jane married her high school sweetheart John R. Blair in 1943, both 19 years old at the time. They lived at 29 Barbour Road for over 50 years, where they lovingly raised three sons. Family was everything for Jane. An only child, nothing made her prouder than her three sons, her daughters-in-law, her nine grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She loved them all unconditionally. Known affectionately as “Annie” to her family and extended family, Jane was admired throughout her life for her grit, optimism, sense of humor, generous spirit and specialty food recipes. Jane is predeceased by her husband John in 1996, her eldest son John Howard in 1989 and her great grandson Ryder Gordon Brown in 2015. She is survived by her sons Dr. Timothy Rawlings Blair and his wife Jeanne Brusek Blair of Oviedo, Fl; Robert Joseph Blair and his wife Janet Sarrantonio Blair of New Rochelle, NY; and Susan Moran Blair of Wethersfield, CT. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Kathleen Marie Powers and her husband John Powers, West Hartford; Brendan Burns Blair and his wife Lisa Blair, Natick, MA; John Drummond Blair, West Hartford; Courtney Rawlings Larkin and her husband John Larkin, Glastonbury; Timothy Burns Blair and his wife Donna Blair, Hinsdale, Illinois; William Edward Blair and his wife Tara Blair, Fort Worth, TX; Alison Jane Brown and her husband Jason Brown, New Rochelle, N.Y.; Ryan Elizabeth Flaim and her husband Stephen Flaim, South Duxbury, MA. and Robert Drummond Blair, Mamaroneck, N.Y. Her surviving great grandchildren are Margaret and Sean Powers, West Hartford; Andrew Blair and Christian Blair, Hinsdale, Illinois; Wyatt and Carson Blair, Ft. Worth, TX; John and Rose Blair, Rocky Hill; Megan, Aidan, and Kaitlyn Blair, Natick, MA; John, Eleanor and Elizabeth Larkin, Glastonbury; Griffin Brown, New Rochelle, N.Y; Brandon, Trevor, Nicholas, Cameron and Luca Flaim, South Duxbury, MA. Jane was professionally and lovingly cared for by the staff at Jefferson House and for many years by long time friends Stella Agakhonova and Maria Casey.
