Jane Ellen Gaines, age 98, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away on December 17, 2019 at the Rensselaer Care Center.
Jane was born in Francesville, Indiana on October 9, 1921, the daughter of Charles and Sarah (Pullins) Lowry. She was raised in Rensselaer where she graduated with the class of 1940 from Rensselaer High School. On February 23, 1946, Jane married Ward Gaines in Francesville, Indiana. A homemaker, Jane had previously been employed at the Kingsbury Ammunition Plant. Jane was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer. She enjoyed mowing her yard and loved being in the garden.
Jane’s greatest joy came from time she spent with her loving family. Surviving are three children, Susan Gaines, Steven (Diane) Gaines and Sally (Earl) Dobson all of Rensselaer; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and a sister, Kay Nelson of Lafayette, Indiana.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Sarah, her husband Ward who passed away April 6, 1992, and six siblings, Sarah Alice Sites, Betty Wendt, Carol Harris, Bob Lowry, Eugene Lowry and Donald Lowry.
