Jane (Beckmann) Swayne, 86, of Newington, quietly closed her classroom after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, December 28, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late Theodore M. Swayne for 25 years. Born in New York in 1927, daughter of the late Herman Dietrick and Madelin (Lutz) Beckmann, she was a career teacher, mother and wife, retiring from Elizabeth Green Elementary. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she leaves her son Mark Swayne and his wife Ellen of Simsbury, Gregory Swayne and his wife Mary Sue of New Britain, and Patricia Bengtson and her husband Russell of Wethersfield, her ten grandchildren, Christine, Alison, Patrick, Kate and Kelly Swayne, Noel, Chris, Jessica and Suzanne Bengtson, and Stacy Cournoyer, and eleven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Herman and John Henry. All benefitted from her positive approach and natural inquisitiveness to learning and life.
