Jane Anne (Hard) Bourgeois, 80, of Cromwell, formerly of Granby, CT passed away peacefully Monday, April 17, 2017 at Pilgrim Manor Care Center at Covenant Village of Cromwell, CT. Jane was born September 30, 1936, in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of the late Chester M. and Rose (Meyer) Hard. She was divorced from David A. Smith and Louis E. Bourgeois. Jane graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1958 with a BS in Education. After her first year of teaching, she stayed at home until her youngest child went to school. For many years, she worked at CIGNA and then Lincoln Financial, starting as an Administrative Assistant and ending her career as a Financial Planning Manager. She loved Longaberger Baskets and enjoyed being a Longaberger Basket Consultant for almost 20 years. Jane was a proud member of the Abigail Phelps and later Wadsworth Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), serving as Treasurer for several years. She loved genealogy and spent many hours researching her family across the country. She was the former Queen Mother of the Granby/Port Charlotte Chapter of the Red Hat Society. For over 20 years, Jane dealt with her Parkinson’s Disease with grace and determination. She participated in research studies as well as support groups (Connecticut Parkinson’s Working Group) and attempted to stay independent as long as she could. She even underwent Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Surgery to lessen her symptoms. She is survived by her children Lynn (Smith) Tinter and husband Daniel of Portland, CT and Valerie (Smith) Meissner and husband Rich of Clark, NJ, grandson Brodie Meissner, brother Chet and wife Pam Hard of Fairfield, OH and sister Donna and husband John McDaniel of Hamilton, OH. She was pre-deceased by sister RoseMary Carusone of Cincinnati, OH.
