After a long and courageous battle with heart disease; James Xavier Mooney Sr. passed away peacefully, at home, with his children by his side. A beloved patriarch, brother, and friend; Jim was loved and respected by many over his 88 years. Family always came first to Jim, and he showed this, through his words and his actions, every day of his life.

Jim was born to James Xavier Mooney and Dorothy Ella Thorn in Mr. Vernon, New York. He was raised in Yonkers and worked many jobs in his early his early years; never being idle, and always looking to improve. Eventually, he settled in the trucking industry, driving long-haul freight and household moving trucks; before starting his first business venture in New York.

In 1972, Jim moved his family from New York to New Mexico where he continued his business and entered several new entrepreneurial ventures. Jim built a legacy through his business savvy and tenacity. He retired at the age of 52; but would not remain idle, even in retirement.

Jim spent his long retirement pursuing his many and varied other interests. He was an avid collector, and builder, of Ford Model T cars and trucks and a serious model train enthusiast. He, also, continued to actively manage his business holdings during retirement, keeping a very sharp and active mind all his life.

Jim is survived by his four children – James X. Mooney Jr., Jane E. (Mooney) Nowell, Kathleen A. Mooney, and Matthew E. Mooney; along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his younger sister Ann Dorn and brother Charles Mooney. He was predeceased by sisters Dorothy Mooney and Jane O’Toole.
