James “Jim” Walter Meggs, 69, of Marshville, NC passed away at his home on October 21, 2022. Jim was the youngest of three siblings born on March 1, 1953 to the late Thomas Richard Meggs and the late Betty Lou Turner Meggs.
Jim loved reading, history, sports, and was a civil war historian and collector for many years. He enjoyed collecting and showcasing his collection to schools and anyone interested in learning.
Jim graduated from Piedmont High School and obtained his associate degree from Stanly Community College. He worked almost 30 years at Stanly Knitting Mills in numerous roles from repairing sewing machines to being the lead Industrial Engineer. He had a great career and made lifelong friendships during his time at Stanly. He also was a Director of Engineering and Research for Longworth Industries for almost 15 years before retiring. Jim was a Christian and was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Ann Newsom, sons, Phillip and Jason (Bridget) Meggs, stepson, Caleb Reza, granddaughters, Kyndal Meggs Arrowood and Emery Meggs; as well as his brother Donald (Earlene) Meggs and sister, Vicky (Gerald) Baucom.
