James W. Larson, age 77, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022 at his residence with his children at his side.

Jim was born January 25, 1945 in Wisconsin Rapids to Clarence and Virginia (Newman) Larson.  He married Susan Nelson on March 25, 1967 in Wisconsin Rapids.  She preceded him in death on August 3, 2008.

Jim began his long career as drywaller and painter as an apprentice for Neil Plahmer and John Stricker.  He attended Mid-State Technical College and worked as a journeyman Drywaller for another three years to learn decorating techniques and color schemes.  Jim also worked for Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools as a custodian until 2002 when he “retired”.  He again worked for WRPS driving special needs children for the last few years of his life.  He started Jim Larson Painting and Drywalling in 1972 and owned and operated the business, taking great pride in his workmanship until the time of his death.  He employed many people over the years including his children, teaching the value of a hard day’s work and a job well done.

Jim’s interests outside of his career included NASCAR, camping, fishing, and taking meticulous care of his lawn.  He treasured time spent with family.  Jim was known to be an instigator and liked to give people a hard time, and he always had a joke at the ready.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Tami (Patrick) Zimmerman of Wisconsin Rapids; son, James Larson of Wisconsin Rapids; four grandchildren: Alex Larson, Hailey (Tyler) Sigler, Adam (Bella) Larson, and Kadin Larson; three great-grandchildren: Layla Larson, Nathan Sigler, and Calvin Larson; and his grand dog, Hank.  In addition to his wife Susan, he is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and sister.
