James W. Day, 90, Chesterfield, passed away November 12, 2010 at his residence.

He was born May 15, 1920 in New Castle, Indiana, and resided in this area most of his life. He served his country in the US Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He served at the Marshall Islands during the Hydrogen Bomb testing. Sgt 1st Class Day was awarded the Purple Heart and multiple Bronze Stars.

He retired from the US Army and the United States Postal Service. He was a member of the Indiana Association of Spiritualist- Camp Chesterfield, Chesterfield Optimist Club and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Jerrie Day; daughter, Cheryl Burk Jon of Anderson; sister, Helen Owens of Evansville; dog, Rosie Day; grandchildren, Tracy Thompson Shane and Sandra Gaw Adam; great granddaughters, Sarah Thompson and Ashley Thompson; nieces and nephews, Connie Masters Dick, Linda Marquis, Danny Day Sharon, Mike Day, Darrel Day, David Day and Pat Day; and great nieces and nephew, Julie Rinehart, Amie Thornburg, Jenifer Day-Pawluk and Jeff Rinehart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Lucy Weston Day; 1st wife, Wanda Day; brothers, Bob Day and Gene Day; and sisters-in-law, Ventla Day and Lillian Day.
