James (JB or Jimmy) Wesley Brewer, 76, of Eatontown, NJ, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016, at Meridian Nursing & Rehabilitation at Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury, NJ. He was born on May 29, 1940 in Newark, NJ to James and Nancy Brewer.
James was employed as a Mason and worked for several construction companies such as Wilson Bridge, B&B Construction, Young Construction & Engineering Inc., and Larry Bennett Stucco Inc., just to name a few.
James opened his own business and named his company, J.B. Mason Contractor. He was a long time resident of Asbury Park, NJ and grew up in his home on 1926 Greenwood Ave in Neptune, NJ. James helped his father build the church next to their house, and he also assisted in building many of the establishments in Monmouth and Ocean Township.
James loved the Word of God.
He was a terrific sportsman. He could play any sport well. He loved baseball and played third base and outfield. He was a great ball player.
James had a kind heart and would do anything for you. If you asked him for help and you couldn’t pay him, he would say, “I will catch you next time, or pay me when you can.” That’s the kind of person he was.
His sense of humor was great! He could make you laugh; however, he would not allow people to take advantage of himself or others. Once he realized that someone was taking advantage of him or someone else, there was a price to pay.
James was a very sweet man; however, everyone knew that it wasn’t wise to make him angry. As he matured in God, he got sweeter and sweeter until his passing. He would always say, “Jesus will handle it all and when the good Lord is ready for me, He will come for me.” His favorite scripture was, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” Matthew 7:12.
James was predeceased by his son, James Wesley Brewer III; parents, James and Nancy Brewer; and sister, Lillie Brewer.
He is survived by his wife, Francis Brewer of Kentucky; two sons, Michael Forehand (Corlette) of Tinton Falls, NJ, and James Atkins (aka JC) of Asbury Park, NJ; four daughters, Tresera (aka Tracey) Brewer of Asbury Park, NJ, Bernice Brewer (aka Bambie) of Asbury Park, NJ, Ashley Brewer Anderson of Kentucky, and Alisha Brewer Sharpe of Neptune, NJ; beloved caregiver and baby girl, Trudy Watt (daughter); one stepson, Derrel King of Kentucky; three brothers, David Brewer of Maryland, Danny Brewer of Elizabeth, NJ, and Alonzo Brewer of Maryland; one sister, Mary Brewer of Florida; special cousins, Brenda and Breeze McCloud of Asbury Park, NJ; stepmother, Lillie Brewer; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins and friends.
