Mr. James “Tellis” Moore quietly passed away at a local medical facility.

JAMES CLEVELAND MOORE, JR.

Tellis worked for NAASCO Shipyard for several years before taking ill. He owned the streets of Southeast San Diego, knowing and talking to everyone who crossed his path. James was a kind-hearted man who would give the shirt off his back if you needed it. Many listened and laughed as he would have everyone around him laughing in tears because of his wild and crazy stories. One phrase in particular that he was known to say to his mother was: “Mama, let me borrow $5”. She would say, “Gone Tellis, I ain’t got $5”; then he would say, “Then let me borrow $10”.

Tellis will be remembered by family and friends for his love of Thunderbird wine, Pall Mall cigarettes, and Butterfinger and Milky Way candy bars. He had undeniable love for his family and was always there when anyone needed him.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his sister, Sylvia Lee Moore-Kennedy

On Monday, June 3, 2013, at 4:32 A.M., James Cleveland Moore, Jr. was called home to rest after several years of battling Diabetes and other health issues. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Owens and her husband; sister, Dorothy Wright; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces, Sharonia “Roni” Moore, Rea Hayes and Aunae Moore all of San Diego, CA.; and a host of nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends near and far.
