James Svalstedt, 62, of Bethel, CT, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013. Born in Laramie, Wyoming on February 24, 1951, he was the son of the late Alice Clare Farrell Hansford, and his father, Karl Bruno Svalstedt of Norwalk, CT. Jim attended school in Laramie, where he was an accomplished swimmer on the diving team. He moved to Norwalk, where he apprenticed and became a residential and commercial carpenter under Carpenter’s Local 210.
In addition to his father, Karl, Jim is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Marie Svalstedt; his son, Jameson Svalstedt, and daughter, Marisa Svalstedt and his son-in-law, Brian Stashenko, of Danbury, CT; his brother, Carl Svalstedt and wife Mary of Dillwyn, VA; his sister, Lynne Watkins and her husband John, of Mountain Home, ID; his late niece Sara Clinton and his great nephew Gunnar of Idaho; his brother-in-law Ralph Cordova and wife Eva of Stamford CT; his late aunt, Linnea Wood and her husband William (Uncle Bill) of New Canaan, CT; his aunt, Astrid Astorino, and his cousins Michael Astorino and Doreen O’Rourke of Massachusetts; his mother-in-law Antonia Cordova and her husband Oreste Mariani of New York, NY, as well as many close friends who were loved dearly and considered family.
