James Samuel Callaway, 86, of Union Point, GA, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Greene Point Health and Rehabilitation. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born in Penfield on April 19, 1931, the son of the late Homer and Lou Emma Armour Callaway. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Allene Durham Callaway; daughter, Cathy Callaway Gardner; siblings: Dawson Callaway, William Callaway, Minnie “Polly” Powell, Iona Ellison, and Mary Strozier.
Mr. Callaway grew up in Penfield, GA. He attended school in Penfield and graduated from Union Point High School. After graduation, he proudly served his country, during the Korean War, in the United States Army. On December 9, 1957, he married the late Allene Durham, of Siloam, GA.
Mr. Callaway is survived by daughter, Shirley (Ronny) Blakely, of Kentucky; sons: Tim (Andrea) Callaway, of Warthen, GA, Todd (Tammy) Callaway, of Woodville, GA; 10 grandchildren: Michael (Angie Simpson) Blakely, Kristie (William Shrader) Freeman, Christopher (Brittany) Callaway, Corry (Anna) Callaway, Craig (Kaitlin) Callaway, Travis Goss, Clay (Lisa) Goss, Michael (Anika) Beard, Roxanne (Dave Edwards) Mize, Chelsie (Conrad Easley) Neibert; 23 great grandchildren: Tyler, Jessica (Dustin), Kara, Dylan, Nicole, Weston, Jaycie, Hudson, Ian, Landon, Emily, Charlee, Kaylei, Cason, Abel, Hayden, Grayson, Ansleigh, Caleb, Rileigh, Liam, Brinlee, Cody; great great grandson, Braxton; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
