James Roscoe Eller, 92, of Troutman, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Hospice of Randolph County.

He was born in Iredell County on December 10, 1920 to the late Thomas I. and Bertha Sherrill Eller.

He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He taught Sunday school, served as a deacon, sang in the choir and was always faithful to the church he loved. Prior to moving to Bethel Baptist Church, he was an active member of Southside Baptist Church in Charlotte where he served as deacon, choir member, and treasurer for 30 years. He had also been an active member of the Gideon’s for over 30 years.

Roscoe was a veteran of WWII and prior to that, built Liberty Ships. He loved tending to his fruit trees, garden and honey bees. He also loved sports, especially the Atlanta Braves.

He is survived by daughters, Linda Hawkins (Mike) of Hernando, FL; Patricia Stratton (Richard) of Asheboro; a son, James A. Eller (Patricia) of Charlotte; a sister, Jean Eller, of Maryville, TN; two brothers, Max Eller (Doris) of Lillington, and Neal Eller (Faye) of Kernersville; five granddaughters (Susan, Kristi, Hope, Kelly and Ashlee), a grandson (Alvin); and two great grandchildren (Davis and Sophie).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Annas Eller; seven sisters, Madeline & Kathleen, Tobia Stewart, Sadie, Catherine, Ruth Jackson and Martha Kelly; and two brothers, Dupre Eller and Johnny Eller.

The family appreciates the excellent care and love given to our father by the staff at Cross Road Retirement Center and the compassionate care given to him in his final days at Hospice House of Randolph County.
