On August 6, 2017, the angel of death came into the home of James R. Richmond, Jr., and with chilly fingers sealed the lips of our faithful and devout deacon, Brother J. R., as he was known by so many people, was very much loved. He was the oldest of three children born to James R. Richmond, Sr., and Helen on June 21, 1940, and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
His higher education was at Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia; became a frat member of Kappa Alpha Psi and graduated in 1963, with an undergraduate degree. While at Hampton, J.R. met and married his lovely wife Jacquelyn and they were blessed with three beautiful children.
J.R. joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church on June 19, 1983, and was ordained as a deacon in 1985. He somewhat familiarized himself with the various ministries, thereby becoming a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Male Chorus, and served on the Usher Board as we ll. He later joined the Golden Era Ministry and the Sunday School Department becoming a teacher of the adult class. He really loved teaching this class because he always got the opportunity to give the class an update of his two grandchildren. J.R.
