James Robert McCoy

February 8, 1953 – September 10, 2017

 

James Robert McCoy, 64, beloved son, husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017, in the comfort of his home.  Jim was born in Colorado Springs on February 8, 1953, to Robert E. and Joan T. (O’Connell) McCoy.  

He is preceded in death by his father Robert E. McCoy. He is survived by his wife Barb, daughters Katie Doyle (Hunter), Jenna Young and grandchildren Taylor Doyle, Ashlyn Doyle and Nathan Young.  He is also survived by his mother Joan T. McCoy and siblings Dan McCoy, Pat McCoy (Joann), Terri Vollmer (Kevin), and Tim McCoy (Lena).

Jim graduated in 1971 from Cheyenne Mountain High School where he was on the golf team and an All-Star hockey player. He later served as head coach of Cheyenne Mountain High School hockey team. He received his bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Minnesota where he played hockey for the Golden Gophers. He returned to Colorado where he met his wife Barb Campbell and they married on May 27, 1978.  Jim and Barb owned Aspen Hills Construction building custom homes in the Black Forest area for 23 years. They then moved to Henderson, Nevada where Jim worked for Pulte Homes and they enjoyed boating on Lake Mead and golf. They later returned to the Colorado Springs area.

Jim’s passions were his family, golf and the Broncos. His smile and humor could light up any room.
