James Robert Cherney III, 71, died August 13, 2016 in Orange Park, FL.

Jim was born on August 9, 1945 in Chicago, IL, to Sonja Ruskiewicz and James Cherney, Jr.  He was a United States Navy Hospital Corpsman from 1967-1969 working in the Critical Care Unit/Guam, receiving the incoming from Viet Nam.

Jim proudly served as a Duval County educator and coach for 33 years at Forrest High School, touching thousands of lives.  He wrote the Duval County sex education curriculum and implemented and taught the first course ever in Duval County, which included life management skills and peer counseling. He won the Duval County Health Educator of the Year 1987.

He lived by two scriptures: Matthew 22:36-40 and Matthew 25:35-46.

Jim is survived by his wife, KK; his daughter, Amy and her fiancé, Modesto Ortiz; mother-in-law, Patsy Waters; other family including, Jennee and Jon Herring; nephews, Noah and Ian Herring; Amberly Waters Day and nephew, Zachary Day.  He also leaves many cousins and dear friends who loved him deeply.
