James Robert “Bob” Batson, Sr., age 80 of Pinckneyville, Illinois passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Community Living Center on the campus of the Marion Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Illinois. James was born May 8, 1935 in Mound City, Illinois, son of Abner Alexander Batson and Mary Elizabeth (Huckelberry) Batson.
He is survived by three children, John Batson and wife Cassie of Bardstown, Kentucky, Jeannine Finney of Pinckneyville, and James Batson, Jr. and wife Chrissy of Steeleville; six grandchildren, Daniel, Samuel and Adam of Pinckneyville and Cassidy, James III, and Anna Beth of Steeleville; one great-grandson Kaiden, one sister, Marilyn Jo Roberts of Pinckneyville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, one grandson, one brother Charles “Dave” Batson, and one sister Phyllis Gray. James was of the Christian faith. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, and spent many years as a self-employed handyman. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years, fishing, playing cards, and visiting with his family.
