James Richard Wheat, a quiet, gentle man of great faith passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016 at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Douglas County on February 6, 1924.

He graduated from Douglas County High School and then proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWll from March 1943 until December 1945. He drove a 2 and half ton truck hauling food, personal and ammunition for Company L, 472 QM truck regiment in the China Burma India Theater operations.

He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company at the age of 56 to become gentleman’s farmer for the next 35 years before becoming ill. After moving to Coweta County in 1989, Richard and Joyce, the love of his life, married for 46 years, joined White Oak ARP Presbyterian Church where he was a faithful member and the oldest member for many years.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Joyce McKoy Wheat; his parents Samuel J Wheat and Lila Thrasher Wheat; brother S.J. Wheat and two sisters Louise Harper Gordon and Nancy Lee Wheat.

He is survived by two daughters, Melanie Whitehead and Camille Wheat, both of Senoia GA. Three grandchildren, David Roberts, Donna Boggis and her husband Jeff Boggis and Dixie Tow and her husband Shane Tow. He is also survived by great grandchildren, Ian Tow, Kaity Tow, Brandon Boggis, Olivia Boggis and his sister Mary Wheat Townsend.
