James Richard Phipps Sr., 76, of Moberly, went to be with the Lord, December 26, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born May 26, 1945, in Canton, Ohio to Oland and Frances (Noonan) Phipps.
James met Betty Jane Reed when they were young. They were engaged for five years before they married June 23, 1964 and she survives of the home. Also surviving are seven children; Susan (Mike) Phipps of Muncie, IN, James (Stephanie) Phipps Jr of Excello, MO, Tina (Henry) Schomaker of Moberly, Carl (Sharon) Phipps of Jeff City, MO, Tammy Phipps of Columbia, MO, Randy Phipps and Darrell Phipps both of Moberly, 12 grandchildren; Corey (Heather) Phipps of Moberly, Zach Morgan of Excello, Sadie (Kelle) Phipps of Cairo, Cody (Kallie) Maddux of Hallsville, Angel (Stephan) Tate of Columbia, Kelsi Phipps, Sarah (Eric) Schomaker, Amy Schomaker, Christy Schomaker all of Moberly, David Phipps of Salisbury, Krystal Ridgeway and Kristen Ridgeway of Centralia, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter, Sky Tate.
James started working at Reeds Corner at a young age. He then became a long-time worker for Goodyear Service Store in Moberly where he provided for his wife and children. James was always known to be outside taking pride in his yard or decorating for every holiday. He also loved to spend time with his family and prepare for the next holiday coming up. James delivered papers for Moberly Monitor Index for years and loved every minute of it. He enjoyed hobbies such as hunting, fishing, and bowling with the family. In the last few years James had spent his time caring for their youngest son due to a sudden illness.
