LAKELAND – James “Jim” R. Martin, 78, passed, away peacefully at home Wednesday, April 23, 2014, after losing a hard fought battle with lung cancer.
Born September 14, 1935 in Mallenaver, Pennsylvania, he moved to Lakeland 33 years ago. Jim was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy where he served in Vietnam on the Riverinie Force Boat Patrol, also known as the Brown Water Navy.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Albert Martin and Esther Clark; brother, Charles Martin; and sister, Emma Martin. Jim is survived by his wife of 32 years, Gayle; sons, Joseph (Vickie) Martin and Michael Martin; daughters, Denise Reinheimer, Vyvyenne (Jamie) Rial, Brenda (Richard) Sardo and Bridget (David) Ellerbe; sister, Gertrude Martin Haynes; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
