James R. Dolan, MD, died at Bronson Hospital on Saturday, November 9, following a brief illness. From a young age, Jim set his sights on becoming a physician.
He grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and was a graduate of Omaha North High School, the University of Omaha (now UNO), and the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Jim spent two years in the U.S. Navy as a medical officer before taking a residency in radiation oncology. He practiced in Kalamazoo from 1972 to 1999, serving at both Bronson and Borgess hospitals.
Jim planted the seed for the eventual formation of the West Michigan Cancer Center. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia, son, Robert (Mark Lacotta), son-in-law, Lane Pille, granddaughters, Anna and Sarah Pille, sister, Kathryn Manes (William), and sister-in-law, Cathryn Epp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Erma Dolan, and daughter, Pamela Pille.
