James R. Woodruff, 80, of Plymouth MA died peacefully on December 11, 2020 after years of declining health.James was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on January 18, 1940, the only son of Raymond W. and Effie M. (Weessies) Woodruff. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1958 and attended Western Michigan University. James joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served on both conventional and nuclear submarines and as a plant instructor until 1969. In 1967, he married M. Louise (Mazyck) of Somerville MA and together they raised their two daughters Mary Elizabeth Woodruff and Anne Louise Woodruff.After his Navy service, he worked in the nuclear industry and held several positions in the sales and marketing of engineered products. James was an accomplished photographer. In 1984, he had a showing of his photographs of the works of American sculptor Daniel Chester French at Chesterwood, French’s studio in the he was in his 50’s, Jim returned to college completing his bachelor’s degree and obtaining a MBA. After leaving the corporate world he taught in the business departments at several Boston universities. He was an avid golfer, woodworker, and lover of Old English Sheepdogs. He will be remembered for his intellectual curiosity and his sense of humor. He was active in Christ Episcopal Church in Plymouth MA and served on boards of non-profit organizations. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Louise and his daughters Mary Elizabeth of Quincy MA and Anne of Arlington VA and several
