James Robert Hocking, 82, of Roxbury died on July 17, 2012. Mr. Hocking was born in Chicago, IL on October 20, 1929, the third child of Zada Gertrude Bone and Frank Hocking. He was raised in Oglesby, IL. After graduating from LaSalle Peru High School, he attended the US Naval Academy where he graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He spent six years in the Navy; serving as Deck Officer on the USS Glynn and then in Naval Intelligence at the Pentagon and Port Lyautey, Morocco. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

After leaving the Navy, Mr. Hocking received an MBA from the University of Chicago Business School. He worked for the Continental Illinois National Bank in Chicago before moving on to John Hancock Life Insurance in Boston, Schroeder Capital Management in NYC, and Templeton International in Fort Lauderdale Florida. He was the Chief Investment Officer of Private Banking at Citibank in NYC before retiring.
