James P. (Jim) Dougherty of Lower Macungie Township died March 2, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospice In-patient Unit surrounded by his nieces.  He was 87.

Born and raised in Fountain Hill, Jim was a veteran broadcaster for 25 years on Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia radio and television stations.

While still in high school, he had a daily radio show of music, news and interviews at stations WGPA in Bethlehem, Pa.  He was also a member of the first anchor/reporter team for the startup of WFMZ TV news.

His career in communications included a stint at PP&L’s Corporate Communications Department, from which he retired.

Also known to family and friends as JD, he enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Army, a time of his life that provided some of the best material for this inveterate story teller.

Jim was widely traveled and included among his favorite spots Dublin, Acapulco, Paris, Tangiers, Tokyo and Rio.

He especially enjoyed winters in Florida with his friends and relatives.

He was the son of the late Richard and Mary (Ryan) Dougherty and was predeceased by his sisters Mary (Dougherty) Walsh and Sr. Sally Dougherty, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill; and by brothers Dennis and Richard Dougherty.

Jim is survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
