Mr. James Mullen, Jr.
, 83, passed away on Friday April 16, 2010 at his home in Kearny.
James was born in “Anderston,” Glasgow, Scotland. He immigrated to the United States in 1947 and settled in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He lived in North Arlington before settling in Kearny more than 50 years ago.
James served in the British Royal Navy during World War II as an air frames mechanic aboard the air craft carrier Vennerable.
He was a butcher for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Local 464, for 44 years. He retired in 1992. He worked at the Wallington, Jersey City, Kearny and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn stores.
Mr. Mullen was a loyal member of the Irish American Club and the Scots American Club both in Kearny. He was an avid Celtic Supporter. He was a former member of the Kearny Zoning Board of Adjustment for 20 years as well as a County Committeeman in Kearny. He was also an avid golfer.
James was predeceased by his beloved wife Eileen in 2005. He is survived by his four children Rosemary Callaghan (Patrick), Nancy Klein (James), Steven S. (Angel) and David (Mary). He was the brother of Patricia McDevitt. He was the beloved grandfather of Patrick and Jennifer Callaghan, James Mullen and Richard DeMauro, and Brian and Mia Mullen.
