James “Jim” Mulcahey, 72, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at his residence. He was born March 9, 1941, in Yonkers, N.Y., to Joseph and Anna (Gurka) Mulcahey. On Dec. 2, 1981, he married Verjean K. “Jean” (Lutts) Mulcahey in Elkhart. She survives him at home.

Other survivors include two sons, James (Alice) Mulcahey and Danny (Tara) Mulcahey, both of Elkhart; stepson James “Jim” Hart of Bristol; two daughters, Kathy (Peter) Kane of Detroit, and Debbie Mulcahey of Florida; stepdaughter Tammie Bachman of South Bend; sister Carol Castenando of Cassopolis, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Mulcahey, and a sister, Joan Harness. Jim worked at Cobart Packaging in Elkhart as a forklift operator for more than 14 years prior to his retirement in 2009. Jim enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his two golden labs, Jenny and Penny.
