James Melvin Newlon, age 62, of Route 1, Knottsville Community, Grafton, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, October 4, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born in Grafton, August 23, 1950, a son of the late Martin L. Newlon and Virginia Faye (Sommerville) Newlon. His wife, Tena (Stemple) Newlon, survives. They were united in marriage, April 1, 1972. Mr. Newlon was a member of the Wesley Chapel Church and enjoyed studying his Bible every morning. He was the owner of Newlon’s Roofing Company, and was presently employed as a maintenance man at the Taylor County Courthouse where he has worked for 21 years. He particularly enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, was an avid hunter, and enjoyed raising his chickens. He was a US Army Reservist, 363rd Military Police Company. In addition to his wife he is survived by: one daughter, Michelle Beckner and husband Joe, of Grafton; one son, James “Jimmy” Newlon and wife Christina (Edwards), of Knottsville; three grandchildren, Chloe Beckner, Jacob Beckner, and Levi Newlon, all of Grafton; one sister, Margaret Johns, and husband Tommy, Ravenswood; three brothers, Jerry Newlon and wife Marilyn, of Moatsville, WV, Terry Newlon, Grafton, and Joe Newlon and wife Carol, of Milton, WV; and one very special nephew, Tom Newlon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Newlon.
