James “Jim” McLain, age 95, went home to be with Jesus, his personal Savior and Lord, on March 6, 2021 at his home in Columbus, OH. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Dreese) McLain, children, Karen (Dan) Hopper and Jim (Missy) McLain, grandchildren, Jennifer (Brandon) Costlow, Timothy (Arika) McLain, Caleb (Naomi) McLain, Emma McLain and Aaron McLain, great grandchildren, Pearl and Cora Costlow and Matthew McLain. Preceded in death by, parents, Clement and Francis (Konkler) McLain, brothers, Clem, Donald and Ed McLain, sisters, Mary, Margaret, Rita and Theresa.
Jim was born in Shawnee, Ohio in 1925 and lived 10 years at St. Vincent Orphanage in Columbus, OH and graduated from St. Mary’s in Shawnee and South High School. He served 4 years in Germany in the Occupational Force, 3rd Division of the US Army. In 1962 he married while working at the GM plant in Columbus, OH where he retired in 1988 after 35 years as a mill operator. He was a member of McDowell Senior Center, St. Cecilia’s 50+ Club, UAW and Westland Seniors. After becoming a Bible believing Christian, his life was filled with worship, prayer and ministry. He volunteered at the Salvation Army Food Bank and took 4 homeless men into his home until they found work.
Jim loved our Lord Jesus, his family, his home and working in his yard. He was a faithful husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather, a steady provider and gifted fix-it man. His favorite saying was “move your arms and legs and not your mouth.” Earth has lost a simple man and Heaven gained a loyal servant.
