James “Mac” Bell McDermott Jr. was born on August 20, 1926, the son of James Bell and Mildred Matilda (Laartz) McDermott Sr. on the family farm east of Wiota, Iowa, and passed away on Monday, April 11, 2011, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Surviving Mac is his wife, Mary Jane McDermott of Atlantic, Iowa; his children, Elaine (Steve) Teague of Atlantic, Iowa, and Jerry McDermott of Des Moines, Iowa; his step-children, Cindy Guerdet of Oakland, Iowa, Cheryl (Dan) Newton and Randy Eden both of Atlantic,Iowa, Donna (Gary) Cooper of Cumberland, Iowa, and Rhonda Rudolph of Atlantic, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; his brothers and siters-in-law, Ella McDermott of Chariton, Iowa, Nancy McDermott of Bend, Oregon, Sharon McDermot, Lela Petersen, Les (Karen) Boggs all of Atlantic, Iowa, Muriel Riley and Sandy Roberts both of Lewis, Iowa, Janice Hines of Des Moines, Iowa, Robert (Frances) Nelson of Atlantic, Iowa and Dale (Peggy) Nelson of Ankeny, Iowa; numerous other relatives and friends.
