James M. Jimmy Jones, age 79, of Marion, IN, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013. He was born in Liberty Township on July 9, 1933, to the late Thomas G. Jones and Amy M. Jones.
Jimmy attended school in Liberty Township before graduating from Anderson High School in 1951. On October 2, 1953, Jimmy married Marjean M. Payne. Also in 1953, he graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science, after which, he was enlisted into the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. After some time working as a funeral director, Jimmy began working at General Motors, where he retired in 1997. Jimmy and his wife also built and operated the Hob Nob Drive-In and the Super Tiger Car Wash in Fairmount. He enjoyed traveling with his family; antique furniture restoration; auctions and antiquing; restoring and driving his 1928 Ford Model A; and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Bethel Friends Meeting and the Fairmount Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife Marjean, Jimmy is survived by: Daughters: Karen (Tim) Kellogg, of Fairmount Judith Jones, of Indianapolis Susan (Dave) Bowser, of Marion Grandsons: Stephen (Breanne) Jeffries, of Gas City Landon Kellogg, of Fairmount Dylan Bowser, of Marion Sisters-in-law: Helen Jones, of Upland Janiece Duling, of Fairmount Jane Ann Payne, of Los Angeles, CA Brother-in-law: Bill (Janice) Payne, of Fairmount Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Howard (Charline) Jones and Robert Jones; brother-in-law Fred Duling. The family would also like to deeply thank the staff of the North 2 wing at Millers Merry Manor for their kindness and excellent care.
