James M. Hodgell, 94 of Gilmore City, IA, died Thursday February 25, 2016 at the Laurens Care Center. James M. Hodgell, the son of Fred and Edith (Quigley) Hodgell was born February 20, 1922 in Decatur, IA. He was educated in Ware, IA and Varina, IA, and graduated from the Varina High School. He was united in marriage with Laura Zeman and the couple lived in Pocahontas before moving to Gilmore City many years ago. Jim was a self employed blacksmith and also worked for Schoons Tree Service. He was a very proud veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his children: Jim (Denise) of Laurens, IA; Ellen (Larry) Williams of Kansas City, MO; Kathy (Jim) Saathoff of Gilmore City, IA; Barb (Brian) Eccles of Manson, IA; and Alex Hodgell of North Liberty, IA; 22 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Laura, children: Becky, Lena and Paul and siblings: Merle, Lou, Laurna and Edma Dean. Jim was a member of the American Legion in Gilmore City, the Bradgate VFW and was very proud of helping organize the Avenue of Living Flags in Gilmore City.
