Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Jim’s life was defined by three things, faith, family, and love of country. He was a very compassionate, caring person with the most beautiful smile. Jim spent his life serving and giving to others. He and Donna worked with UMCOR on Hurricane relief for Hurricanes Katrina and Ivan. They also worked at Midwest Mission Distribution Center, the Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, Camp Ministries, and the Flood bucket relief in Kalamazoo County. Jim founded the “Grand Blanket Project” in which he, having learned to crochet at an early age from his mother, would crochet blankets for babies and donate them to various charities. When not serving his community, Jim was part of a F & I re-enactment group, for over 30 years re-enacting the French and Indian wars. Jim and Donna were members of the Great Lakes Historical Society and the Mackinac Voyagers. In his time spent on earth, Jim made a difference by serving and giving of himself to others which will not be forgotten.
