Kranz, James L., 96, of Troy, Ill., born March 26, 1918, in Troy, Ill., died Sunday, January 18, 2015, in Lebanon, Ill.

James was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Troy, Ill. He retired from Alton Box Board in 1973, was a member of Farm Bureau, enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing solitaire. He loved being a farmer, and working with the farm animals, his dogs, cats and the birds. He was proud of his daughters, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed the time he was able to spend with them.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna (nee Prott) Kranz, whom he married October 10, 1953 in Marine, Ill. Edna passed 9 years ago to the day on January 18, 2006. James was also preceded in death by an infant son; his parents, John R. and Jennie (nee Whiteside) Kranz; and two sisters, Ellen Jarvis and Mary Zinkgraf.

Surviving are his two daughters, Carol (Ron) Klaustermeier of Troy, Ill., and Laurie (Pat) Mersinger of St. Jacob, Ill.; grandchildren, Steve (Dawn Zobrist) Mersinger, Kris (Melissa) Klaustermeier, Adam Mersinger, Jennie (Colin) Sexton and Mandy (Zac) Corey; great-grandchildren, Dalton Mersinger, Jacob and Nicholas Klaustermeier and Maddux Corey; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
