James Leonard Green, 82, of Sheridan, Arkansas was born September 5, 1929 in Sheridan, the son of Minor Jewell Green and Edna Maybell Crook Green. He retired after 30 years as a clerk for Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked tirelessly to ensure that any Korean Veteran he came in contact with knew they were eligible to receive the Korean War Service Medal offered by the Korean government in 2001. He loved to cook and was best known for his pecan pie. He grew up hunting and
After retirement, he became a Justice of the Peace and held that position for many years and later sought the constable position. He served eight terms as constable for the Franklin Township in Grant County. He enjoyed helping Grant County law enforcement and often would respond to a call in the rural parts of northern Grant County so the deputy would not be alone. He was past Treasurer for the Mid-State Horse Show Association, was a life member of the North American Hunting Club, member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Leonard died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at his home after a day spent cooking his much loved pecan pies and getting ready for Thanksgiving with his family. He had cooked his pies, a Thanksgiving turkey and several pans of cornbread in preparation for making his Mother’s recipe for cornbread dressing on Thanksgiving morning.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Minor Fair Green, Jewell Elester Green, Ira Levi Green, John Fletcher Green and Charlie Samuel Green.
Survivors are his wife, Delores Tarkington Green; Daughter, Arlene Green; Son, Jim Green and wife Leann; Brothers, Elbert Green and wife Barbara of Mountain Pine; M.J. Green and wife Sandra of Sheridan; Sisters, Elizabeth Hof and Venita Stillman of Little Rock and Louise Lavelle of Sheridan. Sister-in-laws, Jean Green of Fayetteville, N.C. and Sue Green of Sheridan.
