James L. Patterson was born to the late Jim and Emma Jane Patterson, in Clio, Alabama. “Red”, as he was affectionately known, had 11 siblings.
Red was educated in Clio Public School System. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Clio First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by both parents; five brothers: T.J., J.D., John L., Jethro, and Jim L; and one sister: Ozell Patterson.
Red spent most of his early years farming, in Clio, Alabama.
Red leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted companion of fifteen years: Katherine J. McLendon; her children: Tamika McLendon (Kelvin), Wandra (Eric) Williams, Naomi McLendon (Desmond), and Ashley (Derrick) Thomas; three sisters: Janie Smith of Charlotte, NC, Jean Collier of Enterprise, Alabama, and Josephine Beacham of Ozark, Alabama; two brothers: JL Patterson of Clio, Alabama and Danny (Alleen) Patterson of Charlotte, NC; fourteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren he passionately called his own; very special cousins: Lamar Gibson and Alice Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
