Mr. James Parker, age 95 years, peacefully passed away at a local hospital.

JAMES L. PARKER was born February 8, 1918 in Brandon, Mississippi. He was the only child born to Virginia Reed and Bunk Parker. He received his formal education in the Brandon school system. He attended Tuskegee University and he taught Plumbing and Heating at Alcorn A&M University. “Brother P” or “Mr. P”, as he was affectionately known throughout his life, was a retired licensed general contractor. He did work all over Southern California.

He was a proud member of Mt.

He was a lifelong member of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World, starting in the Junior Herd, and rose to the rank of National Grand Inspector. He was a member of Clementine McDuff Elks Lodge #598, the greatest lodge in all of Elk Dom for fifty-three years. He served as Exalted Ruler, the highest honor that can be bestowed in a local Elk’s Lodge. He was Chairman Emeritus of the Trustee Board, President Emeritus of the National Active Exalted Rulers Council, and Chairman Emeritus of the M. M. Siton National Endowment Fund. He was a member of the Past Exalted Rulers Council #41 and a Major General in the Elks Antlered Guard Department. “Brother P” was named Elk of the Year, among all the Elks in the entire world. He held the Title of Past Grand Exalted Ruler and was responsible for mentoring and recruiting Brothers and Daughters into the Order. He was also an outstanding cook. His barbeque sauce, macaroni and cheese and sweet potato pies would make you hurt yourself.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two stepchildren, Clinique Richardson and Anthony Burk. Brother James L. Parker peacefully went home to be with his Savior on March 7, 2013.
