James Joseph Wilkinson, 83, of Hudson Lake, Indiana passed away on Monday August 22, 2022 in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born on February 27, 1939 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Joseph and Philanese (Lau) Wilkinson. On July 5, 1958 he married Joan Smith who preceded him in death on January 2, 2006. James was also preceded in death by one son in law, Douglas Van Kirk, one granddaughter, Amanda Jones and two sisters, Dorothy VanDenburg and Donna Gunderson. He is survived by three daughters, Cathy (Paul) Whalen of South Bend, Indiana, Brenda Wilkinson of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Tanya Wilkinson of Hudson Lake, Indiana, three sons, Jerry (Connie) Wilkinson of Hudson Lake, Indiana, Terry Wilkinson of Hudson Lake, Indiana, Joseph Van Kirk of Edwardsburg, Michigan, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, his girlfriend of fourteen years Jeannette Falk of Hudson Lake, Indiana and one brother Laurence (Donna) Wilkinson of Deer River, Minnesota.
James served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1958. He always said “Once a Marine, always a Marine”. James loved to travel, he was an extremely hard worker throughout his life and always had a smile on his face. He never knew a stranger, he would show everyone kindness.
