James Joseph Scalise
October 13, 1928 – February 10, 2014
Lt. Col. U.S. Army Retired
Jim was born in Warren, PA to James and Bette Scalise, wonderful caring parents. He has two sisters, Vangie Peterson and Bette Gerardi, who are very dear to him, still living in Warren.
He graduated from Warren High School where he played football and basketball. He sang in the choir and in quartet groups. This is where his love for sports and music began and has lasted through his entire life.
He joined the Army after graduation and was in the Army for thirty years. He served in states from New York to Washington. He also served in Korea (twice), Japan (twice), Germany (twice), and Vietnam.
It was after his graduation from Youngstown University in Ohio that he received his Military Commission.
He met and married Pat Olsen while serving in Kaiserslautern, Germany. They were married in Basal, Switzerland. This very, very happy marriage lasted for more than fifty years. They have three wonderful children, James “J” (Juliet), Kim (Richard) Williams and Timothy (Janet). He was blessed with eight grandchildren. Since birth they have brought him much joy and happiness.
Jim had an original and very funny sense of humor that has always kept friends and family entertained. He will truly be missed.
His family would like to express their appreciation to the wonderful, kind and efficient staff at the George Wahlen Veterans Home where he has lived for over a year.
