James Joseph Cortez, 89, of Clarksburg, formerly of Edgewood, WV, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was called by his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the WV Veterans Nursing Facility. He was born August 22, 1924 the son of the late Frank Cortese and Serafina Romano Cortese. He is survived by his wife Carmena Medina Cortez whom he married November 21, 1949. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters; Adela Cortez and husband Ted Savino of Shinnston and Sarah Rebrook and husband Brad of Clarksburg; three granddaughters; Heather Boyce and husband Chris of Fairmont, Kelly Gola and husband Jeff of New Milton and Lisa Nichols and husband Chris of Morgantown; seven great grandchildren; Brittany Cameron, Alex Phares, Andrew Phares, Nicolas Boyce, Trent Gola, Emily Gola, Samuel Gola; one sister Catherine Second of Gore and two sisters-in-law; Liz Cortese of Weirton and Maxine Cortese of Charlotte, NC. Mr. Cortez was preceded in death by two sisters; Mary Biafore, Virginia L Petter; six brothers; Charlie, Patsy, Frank Jr., John, Tony and Harry. James was in the United States Army having served during World War II; he was a member of the 113 Calvary Recon, having participated in the Invasion of Normandy, Battle of the Bulge and Hurtgen Forest.
