James Nolen “Jimmy” Walker, 72, of Newnan passed away Monday, June 28, 2021 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta after an extended illness. Jimmy was born October 22, 1948 in Newnan to the late Herndon Barge Walker and Jeanette Walls Walker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William “Billy” Harrison Walker.

Jimmy grew up in Newnan and was a member of the 1966 graduating class of Newnan High School. He attended the University of West Georgia before being drafted into military service in the Army. He proudly served in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, Jimmy went to work with the United States Postal Service where he became one of the youngest Postmasters in the Atlanta region.

Jimmy enjoyed people and made friends easily so after his 22 year career with the USPS, he enjoyed owning and operating a convenience store, Walker’s One Stop. Jimmy also worked as a supervisor with the Atlanta Journal Constitution. His love and devotion to his Lord was evident in his faithful service to his beloved church, Liberty Christian Church. Jimmy served in many capacities at Liberty Christian including member of the board, elder and deacon.

Additionally, he was an active choir member and served as the music leader during church services. Not only was Jimmy an active member at Liberty Christian, but he also held the position of President of the Christian Men’s Fellowship for the State of Georgia. He loved his community and through the years volunteered as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, and the Kiwanis Club.
